Amazing Flying Hoops
challenge
tueday 17th October 2017
The Canobolas Rural Technology High STEM academy once again will host the successful STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Aeronautics Challenge as part of the third Orange Youth Festival. All competing primary schools will each undergo a pre-test stage at their own schools; where they develop and test paper planes to fly the furthest and stay in the air the longest.
The flying Hoop Aeronautics Challenge features as one of the many exciting activities and challenges presented on the day to primary school students. The day’s competition concludes with a finals playoff to decide the winning Aeronautics team.
The challenge consists of two events; one based on flight distance and the other on flight duration. Senior student mentors will be specifically tasked to guide and facilitate the competition. All competitors should arrive with their pre-prepped designs. Participants are then provided with paper which they use to construct their competition plane; the papers dimensions i.e. size and thickness are unknown to competitors beforehand.
